Technology cannot be overrated

During my recent trip to Redlands it occurred to me that (current) technology cannot be overrated for the (business?) traveler. It does not seem too long ago that I used to write an airmail letter in the plane over the great pond, only to mail that letter on first arrival in the US. My family would then get that letter only a few days before I got home again. Calling home would cost a fortune.

So this is what technology did for me during my recent trip:
–      Allow me to help my youngest with her homework (using Skype’s display screen function)
–      Talk to relatives in Australia, yep skype again. We were covering the globe, time zone wise.
–      Do my fysio exercises in the portal from the health centre.
–      Chatted through facebook with our Chilean son’s brother.
–      Watched a few new www.ted.com contributions (the tv had sixty channels of …)
–      Stay connected to home, every single day.
–      And all of that and much more, just by being connected to a local wireless.

This trip was a memorable one for me. Last time there I got ‘rear ended’ by a much bigger SUV. Life has turned into quite a different rollercoaster since then. Good to be back and feel welcomed.
