My #twitter rules!
I was asked a couple of times about Twitter recently. So here are my guidelines. Tweets to me are thoughts I would like to share with the world. Tweeting does not take a lot of time; I do not anticipate feedback, but I am happy with any response (purpose: have real conversations!)
Here are some guidelines I use:
- Follow real people, not companies. I rather use rss feeds and blog searches to follow organizations.
- Seven – ten persons max. That is enough for me. I do switch every now and then.
- No ESRI colleagues, I hope the meet up with them in the ‘first life’ version!
- I really enjoy following tweets of events. I report on events I attend (twitterazi?), mostly in Dutch. For those unable to attend I gather my thoughts. As of now I tweet in Denglish, most Dutch read Denglish anyway.
- I use twitter as feed for my blog , where I sometimes keep and extra copy of a tweetfest
- I keep my thoughts on the positive side. I guess it just depends on your nature and the level of frustration you might have.
- Every now and then I answer questions for strangers (mostly when I don’t have to look for the answer).
- No personal tweets from me. Like ‘ getting flour at the windmill’.
There are exceptions to all of the above (that is why they are guidelines, not rules). I blog personal messages about geo-information, work and my studies, but that’s a different story.
