The art of innovation

Last Tuesday evening I got back to the hotel after class.  The TV provided me with background noise, but I kind of woke up when I heard the name “Art Fry”. Who was that again? A local tv station brought a presentation from a seminar, maybe it was on innovation? After I heard ‘3M’ I remembered: the Post-It inventor!

The way 3M innovates has been described in many (management) books: give your employees some free times to spend on a project of their liking. After I found this video  I heard Mr Fry say: “there are very few things that people need, but endless thinks that people want”. This could have been a marketeer talking! He also mentions the control-trust paradox related to innovation and ends very humbly. Watch the retro video!

Since it is now almost inevitable that my thesis will be about Open Innovation, I have decided to blog about it in English. Makes more sense, Dutch people can read Denglish anyway and my changes for responses really will increase! And maybe my spelling as well…
